Frightening Normalization of Trump Values.

This morning after reading a Durango Herald editorial, The Times called an audible and fumbled(9/6/2018) a couple comments caught my attention.

People need to get a grip. The world isn't falling apart because of Trump…”
——-
The Herald needs to note and call attention to the fact that there are some massive attempts by the larger liberal news media to unseat the democratically-elected president of the United States. Why is the Herald, which used to pretend to be objective, a part of that movement?…”

The whole thing got me to thinking about the Normalization of Trump-think and Republican’s causal allegiance with Trump’s most destructive values.

I compiled a list.  After posting it I decided to do some web surfing to find supporting details for my various observations.  Since the Durango Herald probably wouldn’t appreciate me posting all these links over there, I’m going to post my annotated comment over here:

Seems to me the most horrifying thing going on is all this casual thoughtless normalization of Trump-think:

A man who's political bones were made, peddling an absolutely malicious toxic lie - namely, President Obama’s supposedly missing birth certification, with the screamed implication that Obama was an illegitimate president to be held in contempt. (https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/09/politics/donald-trump-birther/index.html)

A man who’s entire political career is based on deriding and demonizing his enemies, real and imagined. (https://www.thenation.com/article/this-political-theorist-predicted-the-rise-of-trumpism-his-name-was-hunter-s-thompson/)

A man who could not explain to us what a ‘pluralistic society’ means, hell he’d rather sympathize with wannabe nazis. (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/11/the-death-of-american-pluralism/507044/)

A man who has no problems using bankruptcy to screw employees and contractors out of their hard earned pay for his own enrichment, not caring that his actions harmed and even ruined small businesses. (https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/13/politics/trump-small-business-owners/index.html  - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/09/donald-trump-unpaid-bills-republican-president-laswuits/85297274/)

A man who created a charity for his own personal business advantage. (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/14/nyregion/trump-foundation-lawsuit-attorney-general.html)

A man who has repeatedly shown complete contempt of and ignorance towards our planet’s well understood physical realities. (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/donald-trump-s-lack-of-respect-for-science-is-alarming/)

A man who’s demonstrated himself to be self-obsessed and egomaniacal. (https://www.cnn.com/2016/06/02/politics/donald-trump-2016-election/index.html)

A man who’s all Showman, the wheeler-dealer extraordinaire.

A man who only shines at bubble-chamber political rallies.  Shouldn’t that scare the heck out of all of us? (http://fortune.com/2017/03/19/trump-rallys-50-day-challenges/ -

A man with disregard for consequences, someone who often seems more vandal than statesman, in a job that demands an adult Statesman no matter what his political leaning. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnbrinkley/2018/03/08/trump-damn-the-torpedoes-full-speed-ahead-with-punitive-tariffs)

Oh and none of that touches on the open secret that Trump is a Russian obligate.

Seems that the true lesson in all of this is how many Americans actually harbor deep animosity towards the notion of government.  People who seem to believe profoundly damaging our USA way of government is a splendid idea.  Our collective short sightedness is astounding.  Profits over people wins every time and history shows us how all those experiments end.

As if we haven’t already gotten enough genuinely serious problems to worry about, we gotta  go and fabricate more in droves.

  1. Michael Koncewicz wrote a worth reading article March 9. 2018, "The GOP created the culture in which Russia knew it could interfere." It traces the long trajectory that I personally watched unfolding back in my high school years during the Nixon years.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/made-by-history/wp/2018/03/09/how-republican-dirty-tricks-paved-the-way-for-russian-meddling-in-2016/

"... Russian meddling is the culmination of a style of politics launched during President Richard M. Nixon’s 1972 reelection campaign. Nixon’s administration ushered in a Watergate culture in which winning, not governance, was the end goal of politics. The Watergate investigation ousted a president but not this Nixonian approach of divisive, win-at-all-costs campaigning. ..."

"As his orders to Colson show, Nixon was at the center of this dirty tricks campaign. He devised specific plots to attack his enemies, creating a climate of corruption that led to Watergate. The fake mailers were merely the tip of the iceberg as the administration sought ways to attack its enemies.
In certain instances, the White House even attempted to use the federal government to harass foes. ..."

"Nixon may have resigned in the wake of the Watergate investigations, but as the careers of Buchanan and Stone revealed, such tactics were central to the growing prominence, and electoral success, of the Republican Party. The men climbed party ranks, serving as two of the more notable links between Nixon and President Trump.

Over the course of their careers, the seedy underbelly of the Republican Party’s electoral success became its embrace of the very same politics that led to Nixon’s resignation.

Since the Watergate era, other dirty tricks have defined the character of Republican presidential campaigns. Republican strategist Lee Atwater made a career out of spreading fabricated stories about Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush’s political opponents. ..."

and so on and so forth, while the public was too busy feasting to bother paying attention to it's own governance.

Our Founding Fathers admonished us" "A healthy democracy demands an informed and engaged electorate!"
