Why do Liberals Despise Trump? Seriously?

I was reading our local weekly, the Durango Telegraph, and came across a letter from an old letter-to-the-editor sparing mate.  His words hit me at the right moment.  (They were obviously tongue in cheek, yuck yuck fun'n stuff, as they say.  So what?) Since I've been wondering about how that ~35% of Trump believers can justify their steadfast faith in that transparent con-artist.  I decided to spent today's free time trying to enunciate why many of us find Trump so unpalatable. Then I couldn't resist weaving nearly seventy links into the lines.  Stories and resources for the curious - explore those hot links.
Normally I’d cover the name, but in this case I think he’d feel insulted were I to do that, since he is a local letter writing legend and proud of his wordsmithing.

If you want to fact check that estimate,
see for yourself:
Shan Wells - Editorial Cartoonist

Dear Editor of the Durango Telegraph,

Dennis' bit of petty ridicule aimed at your excellent political cartoonist Shan Wells (5/2/19) reflects a sad reality I’ve noticed amongst Trump lovers.  All their talking points are built up upon fabricating ridicule and dismissal by reframing their self-made enemies into straw men for easy burning.

He believes liberals are just over the top with their “hatred" for Trump.  Don’t suppose he’d ever let himself imagine it’s what Trump stands for, that’s our problem?  Not that there isn’t plenty about the person himself to turn the stomach of any freedom loving rationalist.

Lets consider the pre-election decades, we saw a shameless lying self-promoting narcissist.  A man-child who’s self-esteem was so rotten he needed a gold plated apartment and toilet to salve his ego, but it wasn’t enough.  He needs everyone to know about it.

Me First and he couldn’t care less about anyone but himself.  Trump’s promises and contracts were made to be broken, he ran businesses into the ground, and he turned bankruptcy into a braggadocious filled profit driver.  Never showing scruples nor empathy towards the honest workers he was robbing out of their fair pay - all the while obsessing over getting his face into the papers.

Then the election years.  Trump builds his political base upon hatred and an obvious lie - one that’s about as dirty, underhanded, racist and ruthlessly malicious as it gets - denying President Obama’s citizenship, though the physical proof of Obama’s birth in Hawaii is overwhelming to all who’ve investigated.  Add to that he knows little to nothing about our government, except that he despises it.

Then listening to Trump talk, it’s nothing but rambling lines of nonsense.  Telling his audience what they want to hear, regardless of the actual reality surrounding the issues.  Turns out he lies incessantly, even about stuff he doesn’t need to lie about.  But Trumpsters love him and that he’s a lie factory matters not a wit.  Why?  They like what they hear?  Me First, then fear and hatred towards all others.  Is that it

Look at the way he pretends to be Christian, why isn’t that phoniness recognizable by the faithful?  Why don’t they care?  Me thinks because ethics, morality, honesty actually doesn’t mean squat to them!  Dreams of personal prosperity, that’s the key to their Evangelical faith!  Now, Trump’s Me First has them cheering on the transformation of Our America into Their Theocracy.

Then the money and the Russians.  Turns out Trump lost a billion dollars during the rah rah 80s, 90s when everyone else with money was making more of it.  Still his line of credit seems endless.  Where did that come from?  Especially after he became persona non-gratis at all the New York banks?  Yeah, we know, it came from DeutscheBank.  The same DeutscheBank that got busted for that huge Russian money laundering scheme.  Look it up.

From all Trump says and does it’s obvious he despises American principles of pluralism, democracy, fair play, three branch balance of power, honesty, and constructive debateMe First seems as far as his vision goes.

A budding totalitarian who makes mortal enemies out of anyone who disagrees with him.  He is absolutely self-certain, but educationally, historically about as stupid as they come.  A text book example of Dunning-Kruger if there ever was.  It’s all about facade.

Well okay that’s going too far, there is substance to Trump - his predatory skills and his passion for no-holds barred dirty fightingIs that why the Christian right worships the Trump?

Oh and that little matter of trusting and believing in Russia’s Putin more than USA’s national security apparatus.  Doesn’t bother them in the least?  WhyThere’s more, but do you care?’

Rep. Doug Collins, riding shotgun for AG Barr at NPR All Things Considered (5/2/19)

The following is a closer look at GOP's Congressman Doug Collins words during his interview with NPR's Audie Cornish May 2nd.  His performance was such an example of the sort of dishonest evasion that the GOP has honed into a deadly political weapon that Democrat simply must learn to dissect along with directly, successfully confronting it's , or we're going keep losing the important battles!

GOP Rep. Doug Collins Says AG Barr Was Right Not To Attend Thursday's Hearing
Heard on All Things Considered   May 2, 2019   |   5:51 PM ET  (5:51min)
NPR's Audie Cornish talks with Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, about Attorney General William Barr not showing up for his scheduled hearing.  The transcript:

GOP’s Rep. Collins:     It's good to be here.
NPR’s Cornish:     So you support the attorney general's decision not to testify. Why?
00:45 - GOP’s Rep. Collins:      I do because I think he made it very clear; he was voluntarily willing to come. And just over the past weekend, the chairman made a decision that he wanted to have staff involved in the questioning.
NPR’s Cornish:   And not just staff - lawyers, right?
GOP’s Rep. Collins:     Oh, yeah, the staff lawyers, yes. And I think the interesting thing is, this is 206 years of breaking precedent in the House Judiciary Committee.
The GOP’s hypocrisy is astounding, ironically there’s no holding back the GOP’s breaking precedent of decency and fair play, after precedent.  Such as having a prosecutor do the questioning during Kavanaugh’s Judiciary hearing, and McConnell’s outrageous behaviour.

We see an evasive stonewalling Attorney General who’s actions and words show every indication of extreme partisanship, to the point of putting himself under suspicion of obstruction of justice.  That is extreme.
That is a constitutional crisis and the Democrats must exert every pressure they can to get Barr to testify “on the record”.
Mueller Objected to Barr’s Description of Russia Investigation’s Findings on Trump

WASHINGTON — Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, wrote a letter in late March to Attorney General William P. Barr objecting to his early description of the Russia investigation’s conclusions that appeared to clear President Trump on possible obstruction of justice, …

Massie vs Kerry - How Democrats Keep Losing. When will they ever learn?

We must learn from our failures!  Case in point John Kerry’s implosion under Congressman Massie’s deliberately cynical and distracting questioning on April 9, 2019.  Here I propose an alternative version of how that exchange could have been turned into a winning moment for rationalism, constructive learning and honest science, rather than descending into the waste of precious time it turned into.
It takes more than superficially knowing climate science bullet points.  You need to internalize the understanding behind those facts.  This is impossible without a deep appreciation for our climate engine’s evolutionary story.
You must also anticipate the GOP’s repetitive juvenile misdirection and the rhetorical dirty tricks they have honed to perfection over the decades.
{This is also an open letter that I sent off on May 3rd to
GOP Massie’s three offices.  It begins with the following.}
Honorable US Representative Thomas Massie,
I am an engaged student of Earth Sciences and since our global heat and moisture distribution engine, read climate system, dictates global environments, climate sciences has become central to my pursuit of understanding our beautiful magnificent Earth and her life story.  I’m simply a student, but I’ve been at it five decades now, so I know a thing or two.
I believe in constructive honest debate as opposed to theatrical political debate.  This exercise is a combination of sincere letter to you where I answer the questions you raised, in the hope you learn something;   > a direct challenge and examination of your malicious rhetorical games;   > along with an examination of Secretary John Kerry’s text book failure;  > and of course, as always, a personal learning project.
Incidentally, it’s worth pointing out that it requires a serious appreciation for our planet’s deep-time evolution, a prerequisite, before any true understanding of our global heat and moisture distribution engine is possible.  I build my presentation around the video of your April 9th performance.
A response would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Peter Miesler

{I suspect GOP's Congressman Massie will hide, they aways do, but should I get a response I’ll be sure to share it here.}

Congressman Tipton What Happened to Honesty, Fair Play, US Constitution?

Open letter to Honorable US Congressman Tipton (of Colorado),

When did your Senator Lindsay evolve into a full fledged Fascist (foaming mouth and all)?

What about Barr's testimony - I found Barr's manipulation of the truth, along with his smug stonewalling contemptible.  Did you?

Furthermore, The special counsel Mueller's report clearly does not exonerate President Trump of criminal conduct!  The ability to be blind to all that I find terrifying and it promises of a truly horrific American future.

Lindsay actions are downright treasonous to the American government - but do you care?

What happened to principles of Honesty, Fair Play, Assessing All The Evidence, not to mention our Democracy and the Constitution that set down its guidelines, along with long standing laws of our government?

Will you support the Democrats in Congress as they continue their fight to allow Mueller's evidence to be made public?

Thank you for your time,

Peter Miesler

Diary 4/24/19_Democrats Stop Talking Past GOP Trumpsters

We’re* going to lose this struggle to save American democracy if we continue talking past each other!  Trump supporters, or rather their arguments and PR strategies, must be better recognized and exposed and understood and vocally countered by an energized, engaged grassroots movement!

Stop following the GOP script - get better educated and eloquent and create a new one.  Then directly address Trumpism and the vandalism its inflicting upon our society - something that has not been happening.

Intellectually Confronting the Faith-blinded and the Faith-shackled would provide a much needed second benefit, to better educate OUR OWN people, who for the most part don't understand today's issues and rather withdraw within the comforts of consumerism than get engaged.

Adam Schiff Responds to Trump's Senate Sycophants

I often share my disappointment with the limp Democratic Party and how easily they wither in the face of GOP's ruthless macho bullying.  Still, once in awhile I get impressed and realize there is some hope left.  Now if only these few courageous politicians can start getting more of We The People to better support them by actively getting behind these individuals and letting our representatives know we expect them to follow through on their efforts.
Act as if our democracy depends on it, because it does!  A healthy democracy requires an informed and engaged electorate!
Yeah, yeah, an imperfect democracy is better than this ME FIRST theocracy the oligarch owned GOP is pushing our country towards.

La Plata County Community Development Services update - March 2019

This blog was originally started because I wanted to help expose the malicious tactics of a few ruthless individuals were engaging in during their contrived war of dirty tricks against our local Board of County Commissioners and the Land Use Planning process.  They were intent on stirring up trouble rather than resolving issues.

In any event, that was then and this is now.  Today I received the following in an email and figure I might at well document it here.  Let folks know that our local government is functioning.  Perhaps not as good as it could, but improvement would require greater public awareness and involvement in the process, boring and mundane though it might be.

The Planning Commission is working with community residents to update the county's area/district plans, which build off of the goals, objectives, and policies that were developed in the Comprehensive Plan that the Planning Commission adopted in April 2017.

There are 12 district (area) plans that have been revised as recently as 2012, while some have never been developed. In order to ensure that the growth management goals for each area/district are current, the Planning Commission has begun a district-by-district update of the plans, with county planning staff convening citizens from each district to weigh in on their area/district plans.

The Planning Commission discusses district plan updates at its meeting on the first Thursday of each month from 6-8 p.m. in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, 1101 E. 2nd Ave. in Durango. On March 7, the Planning Commission will discuss the District Plan update process, and specifically:
